MARKY (Sum) [Pseud. MARQUES (José Ferreira)].— O VALE DAS ILUSÕES. 2.ª edição. Romance. 1963. [Printed at Tipografia do «Jornal do Fundão»]. In-8.º de 256-IV pags. B.
A São Toméan author, the son of European parents, Sum Marky, the literary pseudonym of J. Ferreira Marques, left a vast body of neo-realist literary work. His first novel was TO Vale das Ilusões, a work already showing a critical perspective on the colonial system. His dissenting conscience led to his first arrest by the PIDE in 1962, following the publication of No Altar da Lei, a novel describing the nefarious events of the Batepá massacre in the interior of São Tomé Island in 1953. This circumstance prompted the Estado Novo censorship services to ban the possession and sale of his books.

Two clothbound hardcover books housed in a handmade, clothbound box.
Vol. 1: 1256 polaroid photos, 208 pages
Vol. 2: 99 polaroid photos, 222 pages‘Balthus – The Last Studies’ is an undisclosed corpus of nearly two thousand photographs produced during the last ten years of the painter’s life.
They are the preliminary studies for his last three major paintings. His hands incapacitated by old age, Balthus resorted to the camera as a sort of prosthesis, at once eye, hand and pencil, thus reassuming the mysterious ritual of sketching, for him the one and only way to approach and define the mental image from which the painting’s composition would proceed.
